APPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT FOR BORONIA GROUP
“Our Group is NOT against development in Boronia, rather we want to see APPROPRIATE development in the area.”
The residents of the small town of Boronia, at the foothills of the Dandenong ranges 30km east of Melbourne are currently fighting to save their town from inappropriate, intrusive and out of character multi storey developments. Our group consists of Boronia residents of all ages.
The group started in response to:
(1). Community outrage at the proposed 3 storey developments, and lack of understanding by council and state government as to how these developments would negatively impact on – existing infrastructure; current parking issues; public utilities; blocking sunlight; and (2). Blatant bullying by State Government telling Knox City Council and hence the ‘little people’ (residents), that in order for Knox City Council to get the Boronia Structure Plan of October 2006 approved, heights would need to be increased from 7.5 metres to 11 metres.
Our Goals:
(1). To fight Local and State Government and get the message across that the proposal to allow large multi storey units are inappropriate and unwanted by residents in the area, since the 7.5 metre height limits originally approved by Council in October 2006, could very comfortably accommodate the number of people that need to be housed in Boronia under Melbourne 2030.
(2). To supply the local residents with the information they need to contact Local and State government officials and vocalize their displeasure of what is happening.
(3). To advocate, be a voice and/or give direction to those older residents, whose English may be limited, as to how to proceed when confronted with the prospect of an excessively large and inappropriate modern apartment block affecting their space/amenity.
